United Automobile Mark 25 years of Opel in Malta
United Automobile Limited (UAL) are celebrating 25 years of Opel operations in Malta. To mark this silver anniversary, UAL are organising a series of initiatives which kicked off with a classic cars rally in collaboration with the Old Motors Club (on Sunday, June 1). To enhance the celebrations, they are also offering exceptional discounts and offers on the full range of Opel cars available in Malta.
The rally, with well over 25 Opel vintage cars, started off from the UAL showroom in Ta’ Xbiex, showcasing the brand’s evolution in technology and design over the years. Six models of new Opel cars were also part of the rally, which drove through Sliema, on to Golden Bay, Rabat, Zebbug, Siggiewi, Zurrieq and back via Marsa and Msida.
The oldest car in the rally was a 1931 BLX Vauxhall. General Motors, manufacturers of Opel, had acquired Vauxhall in 1939. Vauxhall is the British badge for all Opel models. Other vintage and classic Opels in the rally included 1960s Rekords, one of which is a caravan; 1960s Cadets, one of which is a coupé; 1950s Kapitans; Vauxhalls Viva; 1934 Vauxhall DX; 1933 Vauxhall BXL; 1948 Vauxhall 14; 1948 Vauxhall 12; 1952 Vauxhall Wyvern and 1959 Vauxhall Cresta.
“This year is an important anniversary for United Automobile,” said Ryan Buttigieg, Sales and Marketing Manager at UAL. “With Opel, we are representing a solid brand which over the years has established and kept its market share through cars which have constantly been updated with the most advanced technology and a design which pleases the trend but never seems to tire with time.”
“Vintage and classic Opels are an important collection in the portfolio of cars which our members boast,” said John Magri, Veteran Committee Member of the Old Motors Club. “These are cars that stood the test of time and the brand’s best certification document of its cars endurance and performance.”
The event was rounded off with planting of trees in Ta’ Xbiex to commemorate Opel’s commitment towards the environment.
“The environment is a real and present challenge for all the sectors of the economy and one which Opel is taking very seriously,” said Edmund Gatt Baldacchino, UAL’s Managing Director. “The introduction of new fuel systems and solutions which are cleaner and more efficient reconfirm Opel’s status as an important leader in automobiles and as a socially responsible partner in the fight against emissions which leave an impact on the environment.”
